After she co-authored the book “She Dares” which is a collection of 36 inspiring women’s stories from around the world, Asma Jan Muhammad announces her return into the publishing scene with the release of “Reflections” (published by Partridge Singapore).
Asma’s extensive exposure to the financial management of leading organisations and strategic partnerships with business leaders from a variety of industries and having lived in the cultures of Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates allowed her to understand the behavioural aspects, reflect on preconceived notions, and challenge them. This book is a collection of musings she attempted to comprehend from scratch, thereby challenging her presumptions, and was persuaded to share with a wider audience in the form of periodic articles.
An excerpt from the article “Is It Okay To Be Indifferent” reads:
“Without apathy, society cannot evolve. Becoming less insensitive to the wrong happening to us or around us may help us isolate for a time, but it is not a permanent solution to the misery one feels on the inside, which eventually reflects in our behaviour toward the people in our immediate surroundings and then to society. Indifference only makes a difference if it evolves into a significant conclusion.”
“The pursuit of knowledge and inquisitiveness distinguishes humans from other species. We are living in an era characterised by an abundance of information but a paucity of wisdom. A personal journey toward self-awareness is necessary. “Reflections,” is one such attempt to discuss topics that are occasionally too philosophical and difficult to comprehend in a straightforward manner. These articles exploring life’s concepts raise questions that recur in everyone’s mind. The choice is ours as to whether we wish to live like automatons, following the path created by our circumstances or the beliefs instilled in us by society, or whether we wish to think beyond these norms and find justifications for our beliefs or develop new ones.” Asma states.
When asked what she wants readers to take away from the book, Asma answers, “Each experience described in this book enables the reader to relate and reflect in order to develop greater self-awareness and a more balanced outlook on life. It is possible to agree or disagree with the content of this book, but there is no doubt that it will provoke thoughts and will enable you to embark on your individual journeys to self-awareness.”
“Reflections” will be featured at the 2023 Sharjah International Book Fair in Sharjah, UAE, on November 1- 12, 2023.
