Due to the worsening of the haze and declining air quality throughout the state, all schools in Johor will be closed for two days on Thursday and Friday, i.e. 8th and 9th October 2026.

Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali, head of the Johor Education and Information Committee, stated that the decision was made as a precaution to protect students’ health and safety in accordance with Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s directive.

The state administration was aware that the shutdown may have an impact on parents and guardians who were still required to work, the Panti assemblyman continued.

In a statement today, 7th October, he added, “Therefore, the cooperation and consideration of employers is greatly appreciated in providing appropriate flexibility to affected parents, including reasonable work arrangements according to the suitability of their respective organisations.”

Schools participating in the Year Four Learning Matrix (MPT4) or any other examinations will postpone the exercises, according to Dr Muhammad Naqib.

“The Johor Education Department and pertinent parties will decide whether to reschedule the assessments,” he said.

In order to allow pupils to continue their education during the two-day closure, he noted, home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) would be carried out.

According to him, the state government and pertinent organisations will keep an eye on the Air Pollutant Index (API) data.

“The safety and health of Johor’s children must be our shared priority under the current circumstances, even though this decision may require some adjustment from everyone,” he stated.

Additionally, he advised parents and guardians to keep an eye on their children’s health, limit their time spent outside, and make sure they get enough water.

“If they experience symptoms like coughing, sore throat, or breathing difficulties, seek immediate medical attention,” he advised.

Dr Muhammad Naqib thanked everyone for their efforts in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children in Johor and expressed hope that the haze situation will soon improve.
