The 2-day Johor Rugby Carnival drew huge crowds
The Johor Rugby Carnival which is the 10th edition of the rugby festival in Malaysia was held at Educity Sports Complex and SMK Medini Iskandar Puteri, Johor featuring tournaments of Boys U12, U14 and U16 and Girls U16 Touch Rugby.
The carnival was a joyous occasion for participating schools and spectators alike with food trucks, merchandise and free health screening being provided.
State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Committee chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali officiated the 2-day carnival.
Johor Rugby Union President who is also the CEO of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ) Datuk Noorazam Osman said he is thrilled to see the carnival evolve from a national championship to an international championship.
He also stressed the importance of organising such tournaments for the development of rugby.
“Our rugby festival is the largest in Malaysia and it will help in terms of the development of rugby in our country,” Noorazam said.
“If we want to succeed internationally, we need a big pool of players for us to train. So, tournaments like this are an opportunity for them to showcase their talent,” he added.
