
Johor Royal Botanical Gardens Istana Besar Johor, or Taman Botani Diraja Johor, has now opened its doors to the public.
Located within the compound of Istana Besar Johor (Johor’s Grand Palace), the Royal Botanical Garden of Johor Istana Besar Johor is likened to a botanical ‘gallery’ for the purpose in keeping various collections of certain plants found in, and out of Johor.
The public may enjoy the garden’s unique landscape and history to explore, with ten different gardens consisting of Heliconia & ginger, exotic garden, rainforest dipterocarp, orchard garden, herb garden, palm grove, tropical endermic collection, Pinus collection, bamboo setum, fernarium, and three iconic locations like Bukit Bintang, Tugu Bendera (flag monument), and the Japanese house.
According to its official website, the garden is 2 km, or 3,000 steps, worth walking in one loop with a duration of 40 minutes, while the total distance is 4.9 km, or 7,530 steps.
Tickets are priced at RM2.00 per adult citizen & senior citizen, while non-citizens’ tickets are priced at RM30.00 per adult and senior citizen. Children under 5 years old and disabled persons enter for free.

It is important to know that any entry without a valid ticket and prior authorisation is considered trespassing by the park.

“Please note that the Park reserves the right to ask any visitor to leave the Park area in the event of inappropriate or offensive behaviour,” as quoted from the safety and regulations stated on the park’s official website.
Visitors will also be held responsible for any damage to Park property. Among prohibitions that are listed in the official website includes no smoking, no burning allowed, no plucking, no fishing, do not feed the fish, no camping, no pets allowed, control your noise, drone flying is prohibited, do not damage property, no motor vehicles allowed, and no cycling and skateboarding.

Please be advised that this Palace compound is designated as a protected area under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959 (Act 298).
