I’ve attended weddings at Danga Bay Convention Centre (DBCC) right at the heart of Johor Bahru town before, but little did I know that the venue also hosts buffet during the holy month of fasting.Â
When Zaidah, DBCC’s Sales Manager invited The Iskandarian over to experience the Ramadan buffet at DBCC in collaboration with APAKK Fest by Rohaizad Legacy as a part of DBCC Open Day on 19th to 21st December 2024 with the Grand Almizan Ramadan Buffet Preview happening on 19th December 2024, I had to experience it myself as to what they served.Â
The buffet in 2024 was a success at DBCC and is returning this year, where it is offering a special Grand Lucky Draw prize comprising an Umrah package. Â
The 3-day event featured 14 companies from Malay and Indian wedding planners, event organisers, catering providers, and also a pop-up market.Â
Some of the main activities of the 3-day event were the Ramadan Buffet Preview, Batik demonstration, cake decorations contest, colouring contest, fresh flower & bouquet workshop and Zumba dance.Â
For the price that they offered, I could say it is one of the below hundred buffets that is worth spending every ringgit. The main highlights include their Teh Dhaka in traditional kettles and crowd favourites like Satays, Chicken Roasts, and Lamb Roasts. Known to masses as a delectable satay restaurant, the satays served at the buffet preview were quickly cleared! Â
As for me, the Sup Tulang is to look forward to. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by the huge joint of a lamb, swimming in a bowl of hot broth that could feed 4 people at once! The savoury broth dipped with white bread is my favourite to break my fast after something sweet to get me going for another meal. I got adventurous and picked up their Murtabak and Roti Canai to go with the broth and it had to be my favourite from this buffet.  Â
I had a taste of the Teh Dhaka (Dhaka’s tea); it is warm and has enough spice to satisfy the need for something creamy and soothing after a day of fasting. It paired very well with my selection of food as well.Â
There are also special items like Macaroni, Candy-floss, and Popcorn, Various cakes, and traditional Kuih-Muih, and for those that miss mixed rice for lunch, there’s a long line of Malay Lauk-Pauk to choose from with a variety of Sambal and Ulam-Ulaman to pick up. Â
DBCC’s spacious hall allows the young visitors to play at the bouncy castle and a game of archery at the second level of the hall. You could also take a photo and video with their 360 camera booth for keepsakes at the lobby of the convention centre. The best part is, there are over 500 parking bays surrounding the hall, free of any parking fees. Â
Prices for the buffet start from RM98 for regular, RM58 for children, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens. Among the popular packages that will be available for the buffet are the VIP Package and the Infaq (donation) Package to sponsor an orphan to enjoy a buffet, priced at RM159.90 per pax and RM50 per pax, respectively. VIP Package includes a room on the second floor for you to enjoy a private gathering while also offering buy 10 and 1 eat for free. Â
The Ramadan Buffet starts from 3rd of March to 29th of March 2025. Â
