Chingay Parade 2024: Alternative Routes in Johor Bahru

The police advise the public to plan their trip around the city accordingly

In conjunction with the Chingay 2024 Johor Bahru Parade, the South Johor Bahru District Police has released a notice of Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) and closing of some main roads around Johor Bahru City, which will be done in phases from 28 February 2024 (Wednesday) to 2 March 2024 (Saturday).

Assistant Commissioner Police (ACP) Raub Selamat, Johor Bahru South IPD District Police Chief in the statement said, in conjunction with the summit of the Chingay Parade on 1 March 2024 (Friday), the main roads which will be closed in stages starting at 6.30pm is expected to end on 2 March 2024 (Saturday) at 3am.

“Starting from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, the main roads will be closed for the “Returning to the temple” event that will start from Xing Gong temple (Jalan Ulu Ayer Molek) to the Ancient Chinese Temple (Jalan Trus).” The statement explained.

Jalan Tun Razak (from Johor Bahru town to Skudai), Jalan Ngee Heng (in front of Wisma Maria) and Jalan Trus will be closed for the procession of 5 deities returning from Xing Gong temple to Ancient Chinese Temple against the current.

The police advise the public to plan their trip accordingly and have set up alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.

For routes from Singapore:

  1. Singapore – Jalan Skudai – Lingkaran Dalam – Pantai Lido
  2. Singapore – Kota Tinggi/Kuala Lumpur – EDL Highway

To go to Sultanah Aminah Hospital:

  1. From Skudai – Jalan Skudai – Jalan Pantai Lido

From Jalan Datin Halimah:

  1. Jalan Kolam Ayer – JALAN Thompson Jalan Abu Bakar

From Kota Tinggi:

  1. EDL Highway – Jalan Abu Bakar/Jalan Lingkaran Dalam

Raub further elaborated that the authority to close/change the route/block the road is under the authority of the District Chief of Police under Sections 21 and 29 of the Police Act 1967.

The police has also advised the public that it is prohibited to carry sharp or dangerous weapons or prohibited items that may lead to criminal offenses which can cause disorder and disorder to the public.

It is forbidden to do any form of provocation, argument and the likes that may cause or trigger fights and arguments.

“The public is advised to obey the instructions given by the officers of the Royal Malaysian Police from time to time so that public peace and order is always preserved,.” Raub said.

“The police will not hesitate to take action against any non-compliant behaviour and act according to the law”.

Lighting fireworks and flying drones without prior permission during the procedure are also prohibited.

During the procession, any forms of trade and gathering on the side of the road are not allowed along the procedure route.

Publics are also advised to stay vigilant to avoid any undesirable incident from happening including to be careful of one’s belonging and to ensure their vehicles with any valuable items stay locked.

People are advised to obey the current instructions from the police as well as to not cause any disturbance during the parade.

Parents should always supervise their small children when attending the parade.

People are advised to park their vehicles in provided parking places and not to enter town areas as it may cause road congestion and not to disturb the parade participants.
