Causeway Cafe’s buffet looks festive

The time of reunion has returned, and St.Giles Southkey Johor Bahru is bringing out all the premium items for your reunion’s needs.

In the recent media preview for Chinese New Year’s Dragon’s Fortune buffet, I had the pleasure to savour what Causeway Cafe would be serving to greet the Chinese New Year on the 10th of February.

We first feasted our eyes on a majestic display of Dragon-shaped Yee Sang before tossing it together to welcome the great year ahead of us! After a handful of the Yee Sang, I went right ahead to the majestic Dim Sums that were steaming in what looks like a wooden treasure chest in the middle of the buffet aisle.

Delicious starters – soft Dim Sums in natural, wooden steam box

Since, I’ve made up my mind to manifest wealth for this Chinese New Year, so dishes made up of fish were my main choice; especially the delectable, sweet, and tangy Thai Style Grouper with Yong Mango dish. When I thought that was the sweet and sour dish for the buffet, I found myself enjoying the crispy yet tender Deep Fried Salmon Sweet and Sour! A delight to me was to see whole pomfret fish lined perfectly, steamed, and bathing in Hong Kong style cooking! The taste of its meat was so fresh that it harmonised so well with the light soy sauce and minced garlic, making it an ideal main dish for me.

Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, a variety of shark fin soup in Fujian cuisine, made its debut in this preview and was a hit with everyone. When I tasted it, the warm, savoury soup with a generous amount of healthy ingredients gives you a feeling of complete rejuvenation.

For carbs, I picked up some Fried Rice while my friend enjoyed a fusion of dishes with the fragrant Chicken Rice, much to her liking.

My rule of thumb for Chinese New Year’s food is that if there is Nian Gao, I would get it! The traditional Nian Gao is hard to make, so we really need to appreciate the end product. Who would’ve thought I could get traditional Nian Gao at Causeway Cafe! It also helps with the conversation, as everyone has a story with traditional cakes – great to extend your dessert time with some chats at the cafe.
