It only took a few steps from where I parked my car at the Thistle Hotel to reach the ballroom, which was hosting a glamorous media preview for their upcoming fasting month’s ‘Citarasa Warisan Kampung’ buffet.
The ballroom was tastefully decorated with an epic, garden-themed stage that will serve as the platform for your evening entertainment. After settling in at the banquet table, I proceed to Thistle’s popular and signature serving of roasted sheep! Slices of tender meat with crispy, well-marinated skin atop savoury Middle Eastern rice are the ideal way to break your fast.
My favourite part is that the stalls are so close together that it took me less time than usual to get everything on my plate, and the Durians are served fresh right at our table! I enjoyed picking up a tasty chunk of sweet and sour fish as well as a bowl of stingray asam pedas to eat with lemang and jasmine white rice.
Traditionally, it is best to break your fast with something sweet, and I have no reservations about the endless array of desserts available, ranging from traditional tapai ubi and onde-onde to cakes and puddings. My kampung in the heart of the city experience was completed by the sweet French pastries and tapai.
While I’m enjoying my fresh durian, I think about having my family over, and the emcee announces just in time that people can begin purchasing their buffet vouchers for the dates 23 March 2023-20 April 2023, with dining taking place at the Orchid Ballroom, Grand Ballroom, and the outdoor garden area.
Buffet starts at 6.30pm and ends at 10pm and is priced at RM 148 nett per adult, RM 85 nett per child (6–12 years old), and the Special Celebrity of the Week Voucher for 8 April (Ayai Illusi and Diva AA) and 15 April (Siti Nordiana), 2023 is available at RM 198 nett per adult and RM 119 nett per child (6–12 years old).
