The South Johor Bahru District Police Chief, ACP Raub Bin Selamat, told the public that several main routes around Johor Bahru City will be blocked in stages, including for road cleaning works, beginning on 9 February 2023 (Thursday) and ending on 12 February 2023 (Sunday).

Starting from 1100 am to 0100 pm, the main roads that will be closed for “Road Cleaning” will start and end from the Kulin temple (Jalan Trus) to the following streets: Johor

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the main streets that will be closed for the “Bringing the Temple Out” event will be as follows, beginning at Kuil Kuno (Jalan Trus) and ending at Kuil Xing Gong (Jalan Ulu Air Molek):

- Traffic lights Jalan Ayer Molek / Jalan Syed Mohd Mufti (opposite Tabung Haji building)
- Junction of Jalan Ulu Ayer Molek / Jalan Dato’ Onn (opposite the Johor Court)

The main streets will be closed from 11 am to 1 pm for the “The Return of the Temple” event, which will run from Xing Gong Temple (Jalan Ulu Air Molek) to Kuil Kuno (Jalan Trus) as follows:-
- Jalan Tun Razak (Road from Johor Bahru city to Jalan Skudai)
- Jalan Ngee Heng (in front of Wisma Maria).
- Jalan Trus (Proceeding back to the temple, from Xing Gong Temple to Ancient Temple from the same route).
Alternative Roads
Road users are advised to use alternative roads to avoid traffic congestion as follows :-
For Routes from Singapore
Singapore – Jalan Skudai – Inner Ring – Jalan Skudai (Pantal Lido).
Heading to Sultanah Aminah Hospital
From Skudai – Jalan Skudai Jalan Pantai Lido.
From Jalan Datin Halimah
Jalan Kolam Air – Jalan Thompson – Jalan Abu Bakar.
From Kota Tinggi
EDL Highway – Susur Jalan Abu Bakar – Jalan Lingkaran Dalam.
Police Advice to the Public:
- It is PROHIBITED to carry sharp or dangerous weapons or prohibited items that lead to criminal offenses that may cause chaos and commotion to the public.
- It is PROHIBITED to do any form of provocation, fighting, clawing and the like that can cause or provoke fights and arguments.
- The public is advised to follow the directions given by police personnel from time to time in order to keep public peace and order.
- The police will not hesitate to take action against any inappropriate behaviour or activities.
- It is not permitted to conduct business on the side of the road along the path during the procession.
- The police warn the people to be cautious in order to avoid any unexpected incidents, such as making sure that no valuables are left in the vehicle and that it is constantly locked.
- The public is asked to follow current police orders and not stir a scene during the parade.
- Parents should always supervise small children who are brought while attending the Chingay parade.
- The public is advised not to create a commotion or act in violation of the law during the Chingay procession. Action will be taken according to existing laws.
- People are encouraged to park their vehicles in the designated parking lot and avoid entering the City area, which may cause traffic congestion.
- The public is asked not to interrupt the parade participants and to remain cooperative with the Chingay parade, which lasts from 7 pm until 3 am.
- Drones are not allowed.
“The authority to close / change the route / block the road is under the jurisdiction of the District Police Chief under Sections 21 and 29 of the Police Act 1967,” Raub said in a statement following a briefing with leaders of the Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association on the coordination of the 2023 Chingay Parade.
