Mango Shrimp Salad with Japanese Sesame Sauce

The Lunar New Year’s celebration is upon us and so is our dilemma on where to have the important, reunion dinner either with family and friends alike. I can definitely help you make that decision as you can’t go wrong with Hop Sing Chinese Restaurant at Ponderosa Golf & Country Club.

This year, Ponderosa has come up with their “Rabbits of Prosperity and Wealth sets” which offers mouthwatering dishes suitable for small to large groups of people.

Other than its bottomless refill of Chinese tea, start the session with ‘Mango Shrimp Salad with Japanese Sesame Sauce’ which brought so much joy to our table with its refreshing taste of sweet, sour yet savoury thanks to the dressing and fresh shrimps – according to my friends who were singing praises and trying to describe to me as to how it tasted since I am allergic to seafood. I believe such happiness I’ve seen could happen when the dish is on your table with your kin too!

Options for those with seafood allergy are aplenty with the refreshing, warm ‘Fish Maw Seafood Broth with Enoki Mushrooms’ and the delicious and tender ‘Whole Oven Roasted Chicken’ with the right amount of crispiness on its skin.

Hong Kong Style Steamed Grouper

Next, wishing everyone more luck and wealth is through Hop Sing’s flavourful ‘Hong Kong Style Steamed Grouper’. Delicious in flavour suited to our palate, the whole fish was scraped out clean!

Then dig into the springy and tasty ‘Ponderosa’s Signature Fried Noodles’ which symbolises longevity; a definite winner which would have you think of it for days, so make sure to get as much as you can out of the dish.

All good things should end sweetly, and my ultimate favourite would be the ‘Yam Paste with Gingko Nut and Pumpkin’ – a Teochew dessert that requires hard work to achieve the perfect texture and taste. I felt like the luck is already on my side when I had a spoonful of it; a dessert that everyone and anyone can enjoy. The sweetness of the sugar is just enough to harmonise with the naturally sweet yam and pumpkin.

Currently, we are still under endemic-living but lately there are concerns of the new variants of the COVID-19 virus, and Ponderosa has informed us that they are limiting seats per table to a minimum of 5 and maximum of 8 pax. That has surely given me a peace of mind, on top of their installed ioniser to neutralise the indoor air quality (IAQ) in their halls, including their restaurants.

Booking the reunion dinner should be a no-brainer now as Ponderosa is offering four different sets for you to choose from starting from the Rabbit of Prosperity 5 priced at RM338+ for 5 pax, Rabbit of Wealth 5 priced at RM468+ for 5 pax, Rabbit of Prosperity 8 priced at RM888+ for 8 pax and Rabbit of Wealth 8 priced at RM888+ for 8 pax, all available for lunch and dinner.

The Chinese New Year sets are served at Hop Sing Chinese Restaurant from 10th January to 5th February 2023.  Lunch is served from 11 am – 3 pm and dinner from 6 pm – 10 pm.

Spend above RM500 in a single receipt and try your luck at the Chamber of Fortune.
