Sometimes you just need a quick break from the daily routine and so when I got the opportunity to head to Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, it was an instant yes. Going on an hour-long solo trip in the middle of the fasting month, mainly to enjoy their Malaysian Ensemble Buffet Dinner and to experience the sahur menu they are offering, had given me a sense of rejuvenation.
After settling and confirming my sahur’s menu and time to have it over the phone, in the hotel’s most sought-after Rock Royalty room, I head down to Sessions where the buffet is held as soon as the clock strikes 6 pm. According to the chef in charge of the buka puasa buffet, Chef Izzuddin, the menus are in rotation. The day I had my stay, the lamb roast was in its full glory and was so popular it always had a queue of people!
I was introduced to the only Compressed Melon in Desaru Coast in the dessert section and found out the zesty, cold delight works both to conclude your meal and to cleanse your palate in between the many Malay dishes that you need to try.
The nasi briyani goes so well with not only the briyani dish but with ayam masak merah, kambing golek, masak lemak and rendang as well! Right at the live-action stalls, I got myself a plate of flavourful mee goreng mamak and a bowl of laksa Johor to switch in between rice and noodles.
Staying true to Hard Rock’s brand, a live band performing classic Malay songs was entertaining the crowd while I’m rounding my fast-breaking with a mug of hot teh tarik and fresh fruit cuts, directly brought over from the renowned Desaru Fruit Farm.
My slumber in the rocking room that night was full of anticipation for the meal before my fast began for the day.
The hotel’s personnel arrived in the nick of time that I have chosen to be awake for my meal and there I have it, a large tray full of goodness. A stuffed fluffy bun, a bowl of warm chicken soup, beef rendang, a bowl of vegetables, a plate of fragrant jasmine white rice, staple condiments sambal belacan and acar, a bowl of fresh-cut fruits, ice-cold air bandung and a cup of hot water with a teabag and sugar packets are more than enough for one to last for a whole day! A capsule coffee machine is available in the room so I could start my fasting day right.
After sunrise, the hotel’s personnel would also help pick up the sahur’s tray so you don’t have to worry about clearing it and just continue preparing yourself for the day.
As a patron of the Rock Royalty’s room, I had to check myself out at the Executive Lounge where I have also used to do some work before returning to my daily life, all freshened up after a good time with good food and good music!
