Johor Welcomes a New Menteri Besar

Newly-elected Machap assemblyman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is the 19th chief minister of the state

The elections in Johor ended three days ago with Barisan Nasional winning the majority. Member of the Johor State Legislative Assembly for Machap since March 2022 and Layang-Layang from May 2018 to March 2022, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, will be Johor’s 19th Menteri Besar replacing Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad who held the post from February 2020 to March 2022.

The swearing-in of the new 43-year-old MB was carried out today afternoon the 15th of March 2022 at Istana Bukit Serene in the presence of His Majesty, the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Onn Hafiz had served as the executive councillor for tourism in the previous state government and is the grandson of former Prime Minister Hussein Onn and the great-grandson of Onn Jaafar, former Menteri Besar of Johor, founder and 1st President of UMNO.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Hasni had also called for someone younger to be nominated as the Menteri Besar, implying that he was not in the running for the post.
