The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has implemented the Malaysian Family Maximum Price Scheme (SHMKM) on the 7th of December 2021 and is effective until the 31st of December 2021 for 12 types of goods such as chicken, chicken eggs and vegetables.
“Based on the feedback received and as an ongoing measure to stabilise the price of goods and ensure the availability of supply. The Ministry decided to extend the implementation period of SHMKM. The new date will be effective from 1st January 2022 until 4th February 2022 for 35 days.”
“The number of price-controlled items for the implementation of this scheme is the same, involving 12 types of basic food items from the categories of chicken, chicken eggs and vegetables,” said Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs in a statement dated 28th December 2021.
The price-controlled items involved with SHMKM are Live, Standard and Super chicken (slaughtered and cleaned without legs, head, liver and gizzards), Grade A, B and C chicken eggs, long beans, red chilli, tomatoes, spinach, imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China excluding Beijing) and cucumber.
There are 4 types of goods involved in the price adjustment in SHMKM which will be effective from the 1st of January 2022 to the 4th of February 2022, namely chicken, chicken eggs, mustard and long beans for selected locations. These price adjustments are made based on the situation and certain factors to ensure price and supply stability.
“KPDNHEP will conduct daily monitoring nationwide at locations such as the wet markets, farmers’ markets and supermarkets as well as traders at the wholesale chain level,” he said, adding that during the enforcement period of this scheme, KPDNHEP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) has jointly conducted inspections to ensure the supply of goods is adequate as well as to ensure the stability of prices of goods in the market.
“KPDNHEP would like to remind all traders to continue to comply with the maximum price set under this Scheme in addition to other legislation enforced by the Ministry. Any trader who commits an offence will be prosecuted under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.”
