The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Johor on the 12th of December 2021 has disposed of various case items worth RM4,001,603.61 involving 155 cases, namely investigation papers that have been completed for 2018 to 2021 making it the largest disposal activity ever held by the agency in 2021

“All items are confiscated cases involving violations under the Description Act Trade 2011, Trademark Act 2019, Direct Selling Act 1999 and Control of Supply Act 1961,” said Mohd Hairul Anuar Bin Bohro, Director of KPDNHEP in a statement.

The large scale disposal was held at the KPDNHEP Johor Enforcement Section Storage Complex in Senai, Johor.

“It involves a total of 96,700 units of counterfeit goods of various types such as clothes, handbags, shoes, perfumes, while goods involving copyrights such as computer software, digital video discs (DVDs) and video compact discs (VCDs). All these items were disposed of after receiving instructions from guardians and the court,” he further stated.

To avoid fines and charges, KPDNHEP Johor has recommended businesses, particularly in the state of Johor, to follow all business regulations set by the Ministry and not violate them, particularly when it comes to the sale and distribution of counterfeit products.

“Consumers are also advised not to purchase counterfeit items since the products are of low quality, aside from protecting the intellectual property of the trademark’s original owner,” said Mohd Hairul.
