As the world gets inoculated to shield from COVID-19 and shifts to an endemic stage, a lot of normal gatherings are now allowed with SOPs strictly observed. However, the Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club (JBHJC) decided to celebrate its Halloween this year virtually to ensure safety and enabling more people could join in the fun at once.

In the afternoon on 31st October, the virtual event filled up quick with organising members and participants alike, all dressed up in their Halloween costumes, greeting each other enthusiastically, and dancing to Chitty Bang, Bang song before host Pauline Foo introduced organising chairman, Maggie Chong to the party.

JBHJC’s president, Lina Lim addressed the party’s objectives and among them are to celebrate locally and internationally while providing an opportunity for anyone interested to dress up and have fun in costumes as well as introducing joy and fun to the community. She also congratulated JBHJC’s newly minted Laughter Ambassador, Pauline Foo and Maggie Chong.

The 45-minutes long party was attended by participants from Malaysia, Singapore, Belgium, Austria and Germany where some of them joined in to lead a segment of activities that includes line-dancing, magic show, ukulele singing, laughter exercises and poem reciting. The celebration came to a close with the club’s ‘Multilingual Thank You’ song, followed by a farewell to all of the attendees.

JBHJC holds a Zoom laughing yoga practise session every day. Participants who are interested in taking part may contact the club via Facebook to join a session or to set up a private session.
