The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to nurture and produce more excellent graduates, as well as to establish programmes and collaboration between individual institutions on both sides.
The virtual signing ceremony was represented by UTM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Sr. Dr Hishamuddin Bin Mohd Al, and Christina Tee Kim Chin, National Vice President and the Southern branch chairperson of MICCI.
Prof. Hishamuddin said the university will cater to the new demands brought about by the wave of the recent spatially enabled government and society, as well as be a hotbed of technopreneurs and spur new-age business ideas.
“With its aspiration to be a world-class university for the next millennium, UTM will have to evolve to meet the rapidly changing needs of the new millennium.
In this respect, one of the most critical challenges is to develop a capacity for continuous change and development,” he said.
Prof. Hishamuddin expressed his gratitude to MICCI for agreeing to strengthen this friendship through the MoU inclusive of co-operation through career development programmes. The aim is to increase the employability of UTM graduates and increase geoinformation based academic programmes and research & development activities.
“It is hoped that each side can pursue more significant activities, and UTM is always ready to provide support and assistance in achieving its common goal,” he added.
MICCI is one of Malaysia’s oldest chambers and it facilitates and supports its members in their goals to successfully develop their businesses in Malaysia through various engagements with state and federal governments.
MICCI also launched its NexGen Programme, which aims to prepare graduates for employability and nurture future human talent for corporate business sustainability.
Christina shared that the NexGen Programme will be very beneficial to complement UTM’s teaching and learning for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
“I believe this programme will increase the number of skilled professionals in Malaysia and other countries by rounding off the academic education at the University.
The MICCI Nexgen programme will provide graduate students with an employability differential upon graduating with guidance by industry captains and internships.
“Extensive institutional networking and transfer of expertise and teaching methods will strengthen the academic skills of the student and academic staff,” she said, adding that the collaboration will help address the national aspiration for an effective delivery system using a spatially enabled government approach.
