Many netizens including the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar have been enraged by viral videos and photographs of a local grocery store in Skudai, Johor, for allegedly discriminating against Indian consumers from receiving food aid.
His Majesty emphasised that food assistance for those in need must be provided in a true manner to everybody, regardless of ethnic distinctions.
“People, regardless of race or creed, have fallen on bad times and are suffering unimaginable problems in the current situation. If you truly want to help, please do it by assisting anyone who is in need and do not discriminate along ethnic lines,” – the Sultan of Johor posted on his official Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the grocery store owners have apologised for their mistake and the signposts stating the discrimination in the first place has been taken down and that everyone is welcome to take the food aid.
On a separate news, His Majesty had aided storm victims in Tanjung Sedili, Kota Tinggi, by dispatching help to the villages less than 12 hours after the tragedy.
According to a post on the Sultan’s official Facebook page, the incident had damaged 291 houses in the area. Through Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor (YSIJ), Major Datuk David Wong delivered the essential food boxes to those affected.
Food was also distributed to 11 families living in two makeshift relief camps (nine families at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Setia Jaya and two families at SK Sedili Besar).
The torrential rain, which began at 3 pm lasted more than two hours, followed by a storm and strong winds which damaged many government buildings and uprooted more than 20 trees in the area.
