The Science, Innovation and Technology Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin has stated in a press conference update that employees may be allowed to go on leave to get their COVID-19 vaccine shots.

Khairy said he will put the issue up with the Human Resources Ministry so that employees can schedule their vaccinations. “Employers cannot stop workers from keeping their vaccination appointments,” he said.

“Once we reach an agreement at the meeting, we’ll announce whether employers are allowed or required to allow employees leave to attend vaccination appointments,” he said at a weekly press conference on the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme’s progress.

The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), according to Khairy, would also suggest that grown children who live away from their elderly or immobile parents be permitted to bring them to vaccination centres on the day of their appointment.

However, Khairy stated that the National Security Council needs to first approve this recommendation.
