More than 5,000 participants showed their support for cancer fighters during the Laksamana Run 2023 event at Gateway Garden, Bandar Medini, Iskandar Puteri. The event was organised by Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF) together with Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri as the co-organiser.

Her Highness, Tunku Tun Aminah Binti Sultan Ibrahim, the event’s Royal Patron since 2017, attended the mock-cheque handover and flag-off ceremonies. Pejabat Menteri Besar Johor, Johor Corporation and Group of Companies, Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor, and 7-Eleven Malaysia Sdn Bhd were some of the event’s major sponsors. A total of RM919,088.00 was raised from sponsors that evening.

Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Ikmal Izam Zaini said registration for Laksamana Run 2023 was open since 1st March 2023. “However, on 27th July 2023, 4,000 tickets were sold out and as the demand for the registration was high, we added another 1,000 slots so that participants could show their support for the cancer fighters,” he added.

The Laksamana Run initiative, organised by TLJCF, entered its seventh year this year.

“We started the Laksamana Run in 2017, with only 1,200 participants, with the theme; colour powder run. This is the second year that the Laksamana Run has been held at night, and we chose ‘music’ as the main theme for this fun run. Four checkpoints were showcased with different music genres and dancers with the help of Yayasan Warisan Johor,” said Mohd Ikmal.

The participants had thrilling moments with various forms of music and dances during the route’s checkpoints. The genres chosen for the four checkpoints included Latin, Hip Hop, Kpop, and 1970s disco.

Every year, the Lucky Draw sessions are the most anticipated part of the Laksamana Run. The reward was won by 30 lucky winners, with the top prizes including an Anantara Desaru stay, an iPhone 14 Promax, and a Playstation 5.
