With Johor rapidly emerging as a hub for data centres and digital industries, 42 Iskandar Puteri is set to play a key role in developing local tech talent with the skills needed for the future digital economy.
Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said 42 Iskandar Puteri’s presence in the state comes at the right time as Johor moves towards greater digitalisation and economic growth.
“With the rapid growth of the data centre industry in Johor, particularly in Iskandar Malaysia, along with the strategic advantages offered by the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JSSEZ), the presence of 42 Iskandar Puteri in the state is a timely and highly relevant step in meeting current needs.
“42 Iskandar Puteri not only equips Johor’s youth with relevant skills but also provides them with opportunities to become key players in the state’s rapidly growing technology industry,” he said after visiting the campus recently.
In a move to introduce coding and artificial intelligence to more Johoreans, 42 Iskandar Puteri, with the support of the state government, is launching a five-day Python & AI Discovery Bootcamp programme.
Unlike traditional workshops, the programme adopts 42’s learning methodology which removes barriers through a peer-to-peer, project-based approach where students gain hands-on experience in solving real-world challenges – all these, at zero fees.
42 Malaysia Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Sandhu, encourages Johoreans aged 17 and above to seize the opportunity to gain digital skills and continue to Johor’s next phase of digital transformation.
“There is nothing to lose, but everything to gain. Challenge yourself to level up and you will be surprised where this new skill could bring you,” he said, adding this was opportune for school leavers waiting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results.
Aznan said this initiative also supports the Johor Talent Development Council’s (JTDC) efforts to create more digital economy job opportunities and ensure local talent is well-prepared for the evolving job market.
“42’s way of gamifying its curriculum makes the learning exciting, challenging and motivating for the younger generation. The learning approach also helps build and hone critical thinking, problem solving and other soft skills,” he added.
He urged Johoreans above 17 years old to register for the programme at https://42my.online/42ip-pythonai-signup
There are two sessions available for the programme, one from 10th to 14th March and another from 17th to 21st March 2025.
42 Malaysia is a nation-building initiative under the Sunway Education Group and Khazanah Nasional Berhad which aims to develop 10,000 skilled tech talents by 2033.
42 Malaysia is a free computer science school that welcomes all individuals regardless of socioeconomic background, academic qualifications, or prior coding skills.
Established three campuses (42 Kuala Lumpur, 42 Iskandar Puteri, 42 Penang) so far, 42 plans to expand to the Borneo States of Malaysia in the coming years.
The 42 programme is part of a global movement with a network of 56 campuses in 32 countries that offers a unique education opportunity free-of-charge, allowing the participation of those aged 17 years and above, regardless of education and background.
