Yayasan JCorp has made a contribution of RM70,000 to the Yayasan JCorp Autism Awareness Day 2024 programme, held in conjunction with World Autism Awareness Month.

The donation has been allocated to the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ), Hospital Permai, Johor Bahru, Persatuan Kanak-kanak Islam Johor Bahru (PKAIJB), The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Guru Xcelerator Autism Centre, and SEA Serene Early Academy Johor Bahru.

Themed “Breaking Barriers, Empowering Autistic Voices,” this inaugural programme is a collaborative effort involving JPNJ, NASOM, PKAIJB, and the Johor Social Welfare Department (JKMJ), with participation from over 100 autistic communities.

The programme aims to raise awareness and enhance public understanding of autism, provide support for individuals with autism and their families, and foster better comprehension of the employability of autistic individuals.

The Chairman of Yayasan JCorp, Rozaini Mohd Sani, said that Yayasan JCorp has established a YJC CARE Autism Fund to collect donations to cover the costs of early diagnosis of autism in individuals from the B40 group.

“As a key institution in JCorp Group’s corporate responsibility activities, Yayasan JCorp plays its role in disseminating awareness and understanding, especially on critical topics such as autism awareness, which might otherwise go unnoticed,” he stated.

Yayasan JCorp consistently seeks opportunities and collaboration in carrying out initiatives across its four main focus areas: Education, Arts, Culture & Heritage, Environment, and Community Well-being.

The programme also received support from KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, which provided check-up counters and a calm room for autistic children and their families. The hospital’s exhibition counter offered various therapies, including speech delay therapy, physiotherapy, consultation & diagnosis for hearing treatment, and health screenings for attendees.

The forum titled “Employability and Future Independence for Individuals with Autism” featured four panelists – Dr Sankari Ganesh Narayanasamy, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (MOH), KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, Pathmanathan a/l R. Nalasamy, Director of the Malaysian Welfare Department, Johor, Dr Mazidah Said, Chairman of NASOM (Melaka) and Zarina Zainuddin, Malaysian celebrity (Parent of Children with Autism).

Nine agencies and associations participated in the exhibition, including NASOM, KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, Yap Hanzen, Wan Jamila Wan Shaiful Bahri (Artjamila), PKAIJB, Guru Xcelerator Autism Centre, and SK Kota Masai 2, Pasir Gudang.

Interactive activities involving autistic children, organised by PKAIJB, included colouring competitions, storytelling performances, TED Talks, music & movement, and brain gym exercises.
