Yayasan JCorp, in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ), has organised the Johor State Level English Language Carnival on the 23rd & 24th of July 2024 at KOMTAR JBCC, Johor Bahru.

This initiative, part of Yayasan JCorp’s commitment to educational excellence, aimed to enhance English language proficiency among students across Johor.

The carnival featured six competitive events involving 242 students from 11 districts, where champions from both primary and secondary schools competed in Scrabble, Dare to Spell, Poetry Recitation, Public Speaking, Storytelling, and Mini Documentary, hoping to emerge as state champions and represent Johor in the national level competitions in August.

Zaidatul Zurita Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan JCorp, highlighted the broader goals of the carnival. “We hope that having healthy competition between schools through this carnival can boost academic performance, produce confident communicators, and encourage parental involvement in education,” she said.

The carnival was designed to empower students by improving their English language skills, which is crucial for academic success and future opportunities.

She added that by participating in events such as public speaking and storytelling, students gain confidence in their communication abilities, preparing them for public engagements.

The impromptu section of the public speaking competition covered topics related to Yayasan JCorp’s initiatives, ensuring that participants gained insight into the foundation’s role and activities at both national and global levels.

Since 2016, Yayasan JCorp and JPNJ have collaborated on various English language programmes, including choral speaking competitions, the development of English modules for SPM students, and primary school tuition projects in rural and urban areas.

The prize-giving ceremony, attended by Ali@Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed, Deputy Director of Johor State Education Department, Official Representative of the Director of Johor State Education Department, celebrated the achievements of the participants. Winners received rotating victory trophies, and all participants received certificates of participation.

This carnival marked a significant milestone in Yayasan JCorp’s ongoing efforts to support education and empower the next generation through enhanced English language proficiency.
