Vibrant Dare to Dream Concert 2024 by 300 Johor Talent

Under Malaysia’s first freestyle saxophonist, Keyin’s vision, the one-of-a kind show mixed traditional, modern, local, and western elements into a spectacular stage

Dare to Dream Concert 2024 successfully held its showcase on 16th August 2024 at the Indoor Arena, EduCity Sports Complex, Iskandar Puteri, Johor. 

Spearheaded by Malaysia’s first freestyle saxophonist, Keyin, the concert was a celebration of dreams, aspirations and a resounding success that highlighted the incredible talent and unity of the local community, putting Johor’s vibrant arts and culture scene on centre stage.  

Doors were open as early as 4.30pm and the performances began on stage at 5.30pm, instilling a lasting dopamine among the audiences for over hours before it officially began at 8pm.  

With prolific and dynamite hosts, Embun JB and Hossan Leong, not a second was left without entertainment to almost a thousand spectators.  

The audience was treated to a captivating blend of contemporary and traditional arts, with over 300 artists from various backgrounds participating, including high-energy street dance performances by Sim Dance Studio, complemented by Yahya Awal’s award-winning, lit-up Dragon Dance, graced with the beats of Kompang, and dynamic Silat teams. 

A mesmerising symphony of orchestra performances featuring talented ensemble of musicians like Hizami Cellist, Akiff Violinist, Coco Violinist, Rhapsody Youth Ensembles, SIGS Marching bands, a live band made of Jeff, Syawal, Jess, Omen, Mac and Zen, including alumni from renowned institutions, and harmonious choir performances by SMK Convent JB and Southern Voice Philharmonia UTM filled the venue with beautiful melodies with dynamic beats from the popular DJ Melvin.  

Besides the street dance, there were also graceful, Malay traditional dance performances by Tari Aliff Johor Bahru. What was unique is that the concert brought Kumpulan Zapin PERZIM all the way from Muar, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Johor.  

Powerful vocalists made up of diverse lineup like Laurence, Lynn Chong & Cidin Tuah, Cikgu Laila and Flo Rhythm quartet, captivated the audience with their powerful performances across various genres. 

Swan-like elegance was also on display with ballet performances by SMK Mohd Khalid and energetic, eye-catching Latin dance numbers were put forward by Tenby International School Eco Gardens’ team. 

A Concert That Starts with a Dream 

A decorated, homegrown, internet sensation, Keyin also known as Keyin Saxophonist, the lead performer of the concert, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response to the concert, stating, “Dare to Dream was more than just a concert; it was a platform for artists to shine and inspire others. Witnessing the unity and passion of the Johor community has been an incredible experience. We hope to continue fostering a vibrant arts scene in the state.”  

Keyin also presented her debut single, “Purple Dream”, on stage with a live band, where she carried it with an exquisite saxophone gifted by Permaisuri of Johor, who is also the reigning Queen of Malaysia, Her Majesty, Raja Zarith Sofiah, whom she shared, is encouraging her to go above and beyond in her artistry.   

“The Dare to Dream Concert 2024 is a testament to the talent and creativity of our people.  Events like this contribute significantly to our tourism industry and strengthens our community bond,” said Sharil Nizam Bin Abdul Rahim, Director of Tourism Johor. 

The success of the Dare to Dream Concert 2024 was a result of the collaborative efforts of numerous individuals and organisations, including Balconiy Event, led by Kamaruzzaman Hans Asele, and the support of sponsors such as SMJ Teratai Sdn Bhd, Hoor Fatt Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Amari Johor Bahru, HYPE, ActiveOne, Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru, and LSE Attrus Sdn Bhd was instrumental in bringing the vision to life.  

Local designers and makeup artists from Bev C, MS Cottage, and L&L Makeup Beauty Academy brought elegance to the event.  

It is very likely that the Dare to Dream Concert 2024 will be remembered as a landmark event that showcased the best of Johor’s arts and culture.
