UNGCMYB Academy launch and signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with University Malaya and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

The UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) Academy was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Saraswathy Kandasami.

The UNGCMYB Academy aspires to be a top supplier of corporate sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) capacity building programmes for enterprises in Malaysia and Brunei. The academy is committed to providing interesting and impactful learning experiences to improve corporate resilience and sustainability performance. It has a staff of skilled trainers, facilitators, and industry experts.

The UNGCMYB Academy designs bespoke training workshops to meet the specific needs of participating companies and the broader private sector. It will further offer three signature programmes to build sustainability capabilities across Malaysia and Brunei namely ESG Start Programme for SMEs, Certified Sustainability Manager Programme with School of Business – Monash University Malaysia and Certified Sustainability Executive Programme with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

During the launch event, UNGCMYB inked two Memorandums of Understanding (MOU), one with University Malaya and the other with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Karima El Korri, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam, as well as business executives, sustainability specialists, and members of the media attended the event.

Saraswathy emphasised in her speech the value of incorporating sustainable practises into company strategy as well as the contribution that ESG and sustainability upskilling have made to Malaysia’s transition to a more sustainable future.

“The incorporation of sustainability practises in businesses is crucial for the growth and development of our economy. I encourage corporate and business owners to seize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of sustainability practises and integrate them into their organisations by taking advantage of knowledge providers like the UNGCMYB Academy,” said Saraswathy Kandasami.

Saraswathy also lauded the UNGCMYB Academy for its efforts to offer its members and clients comprehensive and cutting-edge sustainability training. It is crucial that Malaysian firms take the steps necessary to ensure the country has a sustainable future because there are just seven years left to fulfil the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

“The UNGCMYB Academy offers innovative capacity building programmes to corporates and SMEs, empowering them to develop business strategies that contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future for Malaysian and Bruneian companies,” said UN Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei Director of Academy Dr Sham Razak.
