The Chinese New Year is around the corner and the DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru held a media appreciation, coupling it with its Strides of Abundance preview at their Makan Kitchen restaurant to greet this upcoming Year of the Horse.
As it’s a double celebration, we had the customary tossing of Yee Sang with media friends and DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru’s Sales Executive for F&B, Muhammad Taqi, and his team.
Their Toss of Prosperity Yee Sang is available for purchase, ranging from Harmony Yee Sang with Chuka Idako and Giant Top Shell priced at RM138nett, the Happiness Yee Sang with Jellyfish and Abalone is priced at RM168nett, Prosperity Yee Sang with Amaebi, Tako Octopus and Tobiko priced at RM228nett and Fortune Jade Yee Sang with Salmon, Scallop and Ikura priced at RM268nett.
Afterwards, we get to enjoy the Auspicious Weekday Buffet, with a galore of seafood, where my friends had their fill of Sea Snails, and we are served the Baked Lobster with Cheese, hot from the grill!
The fish is the first to go out along with the shrimps and oysters. Don’t worry if the first servings are gone before your eyes. They would continue to put out more before the end of the buffet. I personally enjoyed their Chinese selections that offered my childhood favourites; the Herbal Tea Eggs, along with Chee Cheong Fun that I can customise their sauce to my heart’s content! I find this a perfect chance to have my non-Chinese friends learn about Chinese cuisines and which dish meant what in this buffet.
If you would love to celebrate the Chinese New Year ahead of the day itself or a few days after, they are offering Auspicious Weekday Buffet priced at RM128nett per adult and RM64nett per child, available until 19th February from Sundays to Thursdays, with the exception of the 17-18th February, beginning 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
Besides the Auspicious Weekday Buffet and the star of its campaign, their Reunion Dinner Buffet, happening 17-18 February, from 6.30pm to 10.00pm, where the exclusive God of Fortune will make an appearance to hand out joy and luck for every diner! Enjoy their abundance of luck-inducing dishes, from their highlights like the Sichuan Pepper-Crusted Salmon to Golden Ginger and Scallion Baked Oyster to Mandarin Pavlova Nest at RM218nett per adult and RM109nett per child.
The Lunar High Tea Buffet is great for smaller and simple reunions where I thought of those who can’t make it dinnertime of the New Year itself to gather. Have a lighter, yet just as auspicious, meal ahead of the first day of the new year until the end of February. God of Fortune will also make an appearance on this buffet, while you enjoy tossing Yee Sang, dine Five Spiced Roast Duck with Plum Reduction and Mandarin Peel, Black Pepper Crabs with Scallions and Wok Fried Tiger Prawns with Spicy Bean Sauce and Toasted Cashews.
The high tea would be available on 17-18th February, 12pm to 3pm, priced at RM188nett per adult and RM108nett per child.
