STPM 2020 in Johor : Flying Colours Despite The Grey of Pandemic

Johor sees an increase of achievement among its candidates compared to the previous year

The STPM, or Malaysian Higher School Certificate, is one of the most important pre-university systems for admission to Malaysian public universities.

The results of Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2020 in Johor saw a total of 102 candidates getting a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00, which is an increase compared to the results of STPM 2019.

Chairman of the state Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee, Mazlan Bujang, said the result has an increase of 0.09 percent.

According to him, of the total, 87 candidates are from the Arts stream while another 15 candidates are from the Science stream with 59 female candidates and 43 male candidates.

“The Johor state CGPA for STPM 2020 is 2.89, an increase of 0.02 points compared to STPM 2019’s which is 2.87 points and the national level CGPA for 2020 is 2.78.

“In terms of principal level for 2020, the percentage of candidates who fully pass 1 to 5 subjects is 99.55 percent and a total of 64 out of 75 schools (85.33%) had 100 percent of their students pass.

“For STPM 2020, two candidates got the best results, namely Tio Guo Yong from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tun Habab, Kota Tinggi and Intan Nurhidayah Lim from SMK Dato ‘Sulaiman, Batu Pahat.

“Meanwhile, among the schools with the most number of best results in STPM 2020 are Pontian Form Six College, Pontian; SMK Taman Johor Jaya (1), Pasir Gudang; Batu Pahat High School, Batu Pahat; SMK Sultan Ibrahim, Kulai; SMK Tun Dr. Ismail, Muar and SMK Tasek Utara, Johor Bahru,” he elaborated.

Among 4,335 government school candidates who have registered to sit for STPM 2020 in Johor, a total of 4,254 candidates or 98.13 percent have attended the examination compared to 98.08 percent in 2019.
