Our glorious table of different dim sums that cater to our different tastebud

After a pretty packed calendar with festivities, this also means endless holiday foods to celebrate life, the cravings for something that we’re used to in the daily yet different starts to kick in for me. Therefore, when Hezrin Ali, Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel’s Head of Marketing Commmunication, sent an invitation for Wan Li Chinese Restaurant’s new Dim Sum review for their lunch menu, made by their seasoned Chef Kent who brought in his Cantonese flair to the restaurant, I was really looking forward to it.

Seated at the round table, warm sunlight through the green shades just outside the tall window reflected on the hot pot of calming Chinese tea were giving me a sense of calmness – Necessary for a much needed mid-day break.

Steaming hot dim sum bamboo containers were brought in, and our table of six was excited when the covers were removed one by one, unveiling perfectly steamed goodness and some, also fried, before us.

The piping hot Steamed Barbecue Chicken is a perfect first choice if you love something sweet, with just a tiny bit of spice for your white, fluffy, round buns. And if you need   to heighten the level of spiciness, I recommend asking for Wan Li’s special dipping chilli sauce to do that work for your tastebuds.

The star on the table had to be the Steamed Prawn & Chicken dumpling with Salted Egg, the yellow, flaky goodness resembles food made of gold – they were gone before I knew it! Another celebrity that caught attention was the Deep-Fried Bean Curd Skin Rolls with Prawn, which were moist and tender, savoury, and just simply delicious.

While one of our friends was so mesmerised at how silky, and smooth the superior Har Kao tastes, the other enjoyed the sweet and tangy surprise in the crispy Deep Fried Prawn Roll with Mango.

According to Chef Kent, what he had in mind was to have everyone and anyone be able to enjoy the delectable Dim Sums that Wan Li Chinese Restaurant offers. The thoughtful words translated into a variety of fun for everyone at our table who has different taste buds.

When it comes to picking the best dim sum for lunch, we all have our own favourites but we agreed that the creamy on the inside, Sesame Ball with Durian Paste, is a must have, while we would definitely recommend to our family and friends the Deep-Fried Taro Croquettes. Both are made of ingredients that any Malaysian would easily love and maybe ask for seconds!

Every Dim Sum comes in 3 pieces, with the price ranging from RM17 to RM26 each; perfect for a lunch with friends and families that are light yet very filling.
