Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor brings festive cheer to 240 under privileged people
Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) a member of MMC Group together with Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor (LPJ) continue to embrace the spirit of giving during the fasting month and bring joy of Aidilfitri to the less fortunate by organising its annual PTP – LPJ Tijarah Ramadan Programme with the local community.
A total of 240 underprivileged families, comprising the needy, single parents as well as those from low-income families in Johor received food aid packages and cash in voucher in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The CSR based event was organised as part of a collaboration effort by both organisations to support and improve the living standard of local community and has been part of the organisations’ annual CSR agenda since 2011.
The distribution of aid was made in a handover ceremony by Johor state Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee Chairman, Mohd Solihan Badri during a special breaking of fast event with around 300 members of the local community held at Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Gelang Patah, Johor.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mohd Solihan commented that PTP and LPJ have continuously demonstrated the best synergy between private business entity and government authority in spurring the economic growth of the state and nation as well as
in alleviating the standard of living amongst the community through its various outreach programmes.”
“As such, I really hope that PTP and LPJ will continue to take a leading role in reaching out to society, and shows its caring, connected and committed face in addressing a wide range of issues linked to the development of sustainable communities,” he added.
LPJ General Manager, Muhammad Razif Bin Ahmad remarked that part of LPJ’s annual CSR programme includes activities to engage and serve the underprivileged within PTP and Johor Port areas.
“The Tijarah Ramadan programme jointly organised with PTP Sdn Bhd for example, is to reach out to those in need within the villages near PTP and help to ease their burden, not only during Ramadan but as also they prepare for Hari Raya. As the port grows and continues to be successful, it is important that the community surrounding it is not forgotten”, he added.
PTP Chief Executive Officer, Marco Neelsen on the other hand commented Tijarah Ramadan programme serves as a good platform in fostering greater solidarity and community spirit between PTP and the local community.
“Over the years PTP has actively involved in various CSR programmes within the sphere of education, sports, community development and environment. Our philanthropic efforts to the local and neighbouring community not only aim to bridge the urban-rural social mobility but most importantly to foster sustainable relationship and celebrate the spirit of togetherness amongst PTP staff and the surrounding community.”
