
Southern University College, Malaysia has formalised a strategic international partnership with Singapore Polytechnic through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing excellence in higher education, applied research, and industry-relevant training across the Southeast Asian region.
The SUC delegation was led by Mok Chek Hou, Chairman of the Board of Governors, and Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr Chuah Joon Huang, President of Southern University College, and was accompanied by Chan Bun Seng, Head of the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Asst. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr Vasanthan A/L Maruthapillai, Assistant Professor from Faculty of Engineering & Information Technology.
The visit began with a warm welcome by the SP leadership followed by a guided tour of its Advanced Manufacturing Centre and 5G & AIoT Centre, offering valuable insights into the institution’s integration of emerging technologies into teaching and learning. These visits highlight SP’s strengths in applied education and innovation-led curriculum design.
A high-level dialogue session was later held to explore areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration. Discussions focused on fostering long-term academic cooperation through joint initiatives in education and professional development. The MoU signing affirmed both institutions’ intention to cultivate impactful collaborations that align with their respective strategic goals. The partnership is expected to serve as a model for cross-institutional collaboration and contribute meaningfully to the evolving landscape of higher education in Southeast Asia.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to cross-border academic cooperation and is poised to inspire similar initiatives aimed at strengthening higher education networks in Southeast Asia. The event culminated in a ceremonial MoU photo session and a closing address by both institutions’ leadership.
