Across the state of Johor, five (5) hotels under the SKS Hospitality Essentials banner quietly made waves in June. No headlines. No fanfare. Just sleeves rolled up, gloves on, hearts open – in service of something far greater than themselves.
In collaboration with local councils and city authorities, AmanSari Nusajaya, AmanSari Desaru, and the three vibrant FIVES Hotels – JBCC, Meldrum and DNP – participated in community-led environmental initiatives in celebration of World Environment Day 2025. From plogging through neighbourhoods and restoring coastlines, to planting the seeds of tomorrow, these were moments where hospitality met humanity – and purpose found its place.

Skudai’s Cleanup Champions – 58kg Lighter, One Community Stronger
On 9th June, a group of 11 team members from AmanSari Nusajaya partnered with Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri for the Johor Bersih – Plogging dan Jalan Angkat initiative at Flat Melawati, Skudai. Together, they walked and cleaned, clearing roadside drains, alleyways, and shared spaces – collecting an astonishing 58kg of waste in a single morning.
“At AHN, caring for our environment isn’t an obligation – it’s a reflection of who we are. Our 11 eco warriors proved that small actions create ripple effects, and that a sense of belonging begins with taking care of what surrounds us,” said Zach Phuah, General Manager of AmanSari Nusajaya. “We carry our brand promise ‘Where You Belong’ into every corner of the community – and this day was no exception.”

50 Trees. Countless Tomorrows.
On 15th June, staff from the trio of FIVES Hotels in Johor Bahru brought colour and new life to the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC). Partnering with Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru, their participation in Green Discovery 2.0 – Naturekind Day Camp resulted in the planting of 50 tree saplings – each one a quiet, leafy promise to the future.
“We weren’t just planting trees – we were planting hope,” shared Melvin Chong, Cluster General Manager of FIVES Hotels. “This collaboration with MBJB and TMIYC reflects our deeper responsibility to the places we call home. Because when we grow together, we thrive together.”

Where Sand Meets Purpose – A Shoreline Cleaned with Love
On 17th June, twelve team members from AmanSari Desaru gathered at Pantai Batu Layar – a stunning coastal gem in Kota Tinggi – to support Alam Sekitar 2025, organised by Majlis Perbandaran Pengerang. Walking a 500-metre stretch of shoreline, the team collected 25 full bags of beach waste, including plastic wrappers, bottles, and food debris – reclaiming the beauty of the coast, one footprint at a time.
“To care for Desaru is to protect its spirit,” said Rachael Teh, Hotel Operations Manager of AmanSari Desaru. “As our team walked the sands with purpose, each piece of litter collected became a small act of love. This was not just a cleanup – it was a declaration that this beach, this land, and this moment matter.”
One Heart, Five (5) Hotels, Infinite Impact
“These are not just hotel teams – they are neighbours, citizens, and custodians of the environments they serve. The initiatives may have been different, but the soul behind them was shared: a genuine desire to give back, guided by the belief that real hospitality extends far beyond a check-in counter,” shared SKS Hospitality.
“Through sweat, soil, sand and smiles – the team at SKS Hospitality proved that a greener tomorrow begins with a decision to show up today. And that, no matter how small the gesture, when rooted in care, it becomes something truly powerful.”
