Social Hero Foundation (SHF) carried out another SHF Care for the Environment – Tree Planting & Clean-up project on 24 November 2024 at Kampung Pendas Laut in Gelang Patah, Johor.
This latest environmental initiative was in collaboration with AME Elite Consortium Berhad and Jabatan Hutan Negeri Johor.
SHF Trustee Datuk Seri Teo Shiok Fu, SHF Director of Programmes, Farrah Baptist and officers from Jabatan Hutan Negeri Johor joined the AME team led by Tain Siew Fung, Business Development Director of AME Elite Consortium Berhad and Tan Pei Hui, Sustainability Executive of AME Development Sdn Bhd to plant mangrove trees and collect rubbish left behind by receded sea water in Kampung Pendas Laut. 488 kg of rubbish such as plastic were collected.
Mangroves benefit our environment and community as they help remove carbon from the atmosphere, help protect against extreme weather by acting as a buffer against large waves and help boost food security by supporting a large variety of plants and animals as biodiversity havens. Mangroves extract five times more carbon than other trees.
SHF Trustee Datuk Seri Teo noted that though it seemed small, these tree planting and rubbish clean-up initiatives help create awareness about the importance of protecting and taking care of our environment for the benefits of all in the future. Small-scale project can help trigger a change for the community at large.
AME’s Tain added that “Today we took the first step into the mangrove, reminding us that even small steps can help nature grow and contribute to environmental sustainability. Let’s continue building our commitment to corporate social responsibility.”
The tree planting initiative was one of SHF’s proposed social and environmental impact projects in 2024, funded by donations from the SHF Walk for Health and Environment in December 2023.
AME was a Silver Sponsor for the SHF Walk.
