Johor’s R&F Permaisuri Zarith Sofiah Opera House has appointed 24 Festive Drums’ founder and Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) winner, Tan Chai Puan, as its cultural consultant on 22nd March at the R&F Princess Cove Sales Gallery.

Lee Ming Liang, Chairman of R&F Group Malaysia, presented Tan Chai Puan with a letter of appointment, witnessed by Xie Zehao, Vice General Manager of R&F Group Malaysia, in an appointment ceremony where prominent local artists, including Lee Sheah Liang, co-founder of Drum Up JB, and Lim Yi Kai, President of the JB Drums, were present.

As part of its efforts to improve the venue’s overall artistic standards and social influence, TanChai Puan, a National Living Heritage (WAKOH), will support it with cultural branding, artistic creation, and cultural exchange activities. He will offer guidance on sustainable development and day-to-day operations management as well.

According to R&F, “As a renowned cultural figure both nationally and internationally, Tan ChaiPuan possesses rich experience in cultural management and has profound artistic accomplishments.”

“His outstanding achievements in the cultural industry, as well as his tireless efforts in nurturing young talents and promoting traditional cultural arts, have earned widespread recognition from various sectors of society.”In addition to expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Tan Chai Puan acknowledged that the role carries with it a strong sense of responsibility, an unwavering pursuit of excellence, and a commitment to traditional culture.

As a cultural consultant, he acknowledged that, in addition to seeing the profundity of culture, he also understood how to help the world comprehend and value exceptional traditional culture by revitalising it and giving it new life.

“Ten years ago, Chinese enterprises began participating in the development of Johor Bahru, and the best permanent gift that R&F Princess Cove brought to this city is the establishment of the Permaisuri Zarith Sofiah Opera House,” Tan said this in his speech.

JB Drums, a percussion group and Johor Bahru’s first professional 24 Festive Drum team, has performed ‘Drum Up JB’ sold out shows at the Johor’s opera house in 2023.

Tan Chai Puan has also revealed that the Malaysian 24 Festive Drums Association will work closely with the international counterpart community and the Ministry of Culture over the next two years to lay the groundwork and advance cultural endeavours with greater enthusiasm.

Tan is confident that, with everyone working together, the remarkable culture will spread throughout the globe and serve as a link between various nations and ethnic groups.
