It feels like it has been years since I have last tasted anything close as festive, and the invitation to review the Chinese New Year Eve’s Special Set Menu at the Qing Palace Chinese Restaurant at Pulai Springs Resort has salvaged my tastebuds to remember that exquisite taste again with their special set menu.

Steamed Dragon Garoupa Fish in “Hong Kong” style

Arriving at the entrance of the restaurant always makes me feel like I have arrived as a royalty from the past ready to be served some delicious meals that brings forth the good fortune, prosperity, happiness, wealth and abundance for this year’s Chinese New Year.

Yee Sang and Qing Palace Special Pen Cai

Starting off with the customary Yee Sang tossing, the restaurant had the staff recite the prosperity manifestation – my personal favourite part as we keep the food stay in the plate to avoid any wastage.

The Qing Palace serves pork-free and alcohol-free food

The piping hot clear broth of Qing Palace’s ‘Special ‘Peng Cai’ or also known as ‘Poon Choi’, made of braised premium assorted hot dish in a clay pot with chicken, abalone, fish maw, mushrooms and broccoli is still on my mind for how it has cleansed my nasal airways, giving so much comfort and warmth.

Then came forth the serving of the flavourful ‘Steamed Dragon Garoupa Fish in Hong Kong style’ cooked crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Love it that it was still steaming as it landed on our table.

Qing Palace Chinese Restaurant’s Masterchef Lim invites you to have a test of his legendary delicacies well-known to locals

Speaking of the restaurant’s speciality, it had to be the ‘Glutinous rice with Lotus Leaf’ dish that is so fragrant you just had to take a big helping of it. Dining like a king is so easy here!

Free-flow Chinese tea paired with the dessert that comes with the set; ‘Honey Dew with Sago’, is a perfect cleanser for the palate especially when the conversation gets deeper at the end of the gathering.
