Regency Specialist Hospital (Regency), a leading healthcare provider committed to its community, is organising a Diabetes Care Community Screening from the 28th to 30th of June 2024 at its new Regency Medical Care Centre (RMCC) located at The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey, Johor Bahru. The campaign aims to raise awareness about diabetes and encourage proactive health management practices, particularly among individuals aged 18 and above in the Johor Bahru area.
According to the 2023 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS), 1 in 6 Malaysians have diabetes.[1] The survey also found a shocking 84% of young adults (18-29) were unaware they have diabetes.1 Cognisant of this staggering and rising numbers, Regency, through its Diabetes Care Community Screening campaign, aims to empower individuals to manage their health better through early detection and intervention.
During the three-day event, participants will be offered complimentary HbA1c diabetes screening at RMCC. Participants can also look forward to complimentary eye checks including Fundus eye test, especially for senior citizens. The carnival-like event will offer educational booths, informative health talks and a daily lucky draw.
Participants will also be among our first few visitors at the soon-to-launch RMCC that aims to redefine the wellness journey by offering high-quality services in a comfortable and accessible environment. With a patient-centred approach, RMCC will utilise advanced technology for rapid diagnosis, early detection through health screenings, and enhanced health management services, ensuring a comprehensive healthcare experience for individuals of all ages.
In conjunction with Regency’s 15th anniversary, the hospital aims to set a Malaysian record for the highest number of HbA1c screenings within a three-day period, with an ambitious target of 3,000 participants. This attempt follows the hospital’s first record set in 2019 where they achieved the largest participation in mass Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with no human models, in collaboration with their sister hospital, Mahkota Medical Centre, boasting a remarkable turnout of over 10,000 participants.
“At Regency, we are dedicated to community health and continue to empower individuals to take a more proactive approach to their health. Our Diabetes Care Community Screening campaign aims to raise awareness about diabetes and also underscores our commitment to community health,” said Serena Yong, Chief Executive Officer of Regency.
