The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) welcomes the announcement by the Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, on the Government’s decision to reopen the country’s international borders to healthcare travellers. This serves as a positive indicator for Malaysia’s economy as it marks a significant rebound for the healthcare travel industry.

True to our recognition as the World’s Healthcare Marvel, Malaysia has played host to over 1.3 million healthcare travellers, achieving more than RM1.7 billion in hospital receipts in 2019 alone.

Although the pandemic has had a profound impact on the industry, patients and visitors’ safety has been and always will be top priority for all of us, especially within the healthcare sector. This allowance is further subjected to the approved stringent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These SOPs include, but are not limited to healthcare travellers registering with MHTC before travelling here for treatment. More information regarding these SOPs will be made available to the public once details have been finalised.

Malaysia’s efficient management of the pandemic has seen a significant reduction in the number of cases. As the nation unites to recover from these trying times, MHTC will continue to showcase Malaysia Healthcare’s capabilities and strengths as a world-class quality healthcare destination.
