In the spirit of spreading cheer and giving back to the community, Pulai Springs Resort collaborated with FreeMarket Johor to host 10 adults and 15 children who are bravely fighting cancer to a buka puasa dinner at Gleneagles Terrace Restaurant on 28 March 2023. FreeMarket Johor which was launched in 2015 is a non-government organisation that coordinates activities to help the needy and less fortunate in Johor Bahru. The organisation has won an award in the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (Poverty & Hunger Relief category) in year 2019.

Sunny Soo, the Resort’s General Manager welcomed the 25 patients together with the kids’ guardians at Kayangan Suites ballroom together with the management team of Pulai Springs Resort.

The cancer patients who are also underprivileged and came from poor families were also accompanied by 4 volunteers from FreeMarket Johor.

The event started with a welcoming speech by Sunny Soo followed by a sharing session by two cancer patient survivors. The two patients took turns to talk about their experience with everyone present including how they are going through life with cancer, chemotherapy treatments and challenges that comes in their way.

“Our team believes in the spirit of sharing and caring especially during the festive occasions when underprivileged people need more love and attention,” said Sunny Soo during his welcome speech at the event.

Sunny also added that the hotel’s main objective is to remember the less fortunate this season of giving and sharing and to be a part of a wonderful festive celebration with them.

To add even more festive cheer, Sunny Soo also distributed ‘duit raya’ to all 25 cancer patients that evening.

After a group photograph, the patients made their way to Gleneagles Terrace to break their fast. They indulged in a sumptuous spread of more than 200 traditional, international and local delicacies, all deliciously prepared by the resort’s culinary team.
