Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that efforts to build a nation should not focus solely on physical development, but also on developing people with high human values.

He stated that the Malaysia Madani concept requires people, particularly the young, to understand the true meaning of human development, which includes noble qualities such as humanity, moderation, and inter-racial and religious understanding.

“We want to develop humans, and humans have elements such as characteristics, values, and capabilities. Young people (must) set a good example for how this country can be united.

“With the spirit of Civil Malaysia, this does not imply that we diminish the spirit of our race, love, or value our religion. (In fact, we must honour our culture, art, literature, and language… there is nothing wrong with that as long as young people set an example,” he stated.

The Prime Minister made the statement while officiating the Johor Madani Rakyat 2025 Programme at Toppen Shopping Centre.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, the programme’s lead minister, was also in attendance, together with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Anwar stated that building skyscrapers or modern infrastructure would be meaningless if people were violent, greedy, arrogant, and devoid of humanity.

The Prime Minister also emphasised the importance of encouraging sports, arts, and cultural activities as ways to foster a sense of unity and consensus among the people.

“That is why we encourage sports and athletics, arts events, and extensive cultural events,” he said. “To have spirit, understanding, agreement, and loyalty to one another.”

The Prime Minister also emphasised the importance of continuing to cultivate and prioritise these values in order to create a united and harmonious country.

“I hope the youth leaders and participants who are present today remember this principle,” he said.

Anwar also handed out the Sports Matching Grant (GPS), Community Sports Fund (DSK), and Civic Community Welfare Programme Grant (SejaTi Madani) during the event.

In addition, the Prime Minister, Hannah, Onn Hafiz, and Shamsul Azri reviewed the services available at the government agency and department booths during the programme.
