Ihsan Johor, a non-government organisation and recipient of the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA), has acted as a platform for donors to channel contributions (funds and goods) and share sustenance with those in need. Ihsan Johor jointly organised a humanitarian mission to Pulau Tinggi, Mersing, Johor for three days with Region 2 Marine Police Force, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Police Family Association (PERKEP) where 80% of the residents made up of fishermen were affected by rising prices of goods, unpredictable weather and struggling through the post-pandemic situations.
The mission took place from 22nd June to 25th June 2022, involving 8 volunteers that paid for the accommodation and trip on their own.
Ihsan Johor donors donated basic groceries like bread, flour, cooking oil, formula milk for babies, and COVID-19 prevention care packages such as face masks and body wash to 53 families and 6 members of the Mersing Health Department.
The contributors were from Promac, Entrusol, Alpro Pharmacy, cendawan.com, Selawat Nariyyah Kamilah 4444 and several individuals.
The mission introduced opportunities for the villagers to earn additional income and conserve their own food security through cultivating oyster mushrooms on the island.
In conjunction with World Environment Month and to support the Malaysian government’s efforts in a campaign to plant 100 million trees from 2021-2025 to reduce carbon dioxide and GHG emissions, an activity of planting 10 pandan coconut seedlings through the ‘Adopt A Tree’ programme took place in the three-day mission.
Two trees were planted by Johor Police Chief Dato Kamarul Zaman and his wife, Datin Suriati Muhammad who is also PERKEP of Johor Contingent’s Chairwoman at the police kiosk’s compound. In honour of the two loyal contributors to Ihsan Johor that has also sponsored five seeds each, they had their names placed on the tree signs respectively.
Datin Suriati also hosted a cooking demonstration with the community.
