Federal road maintenance concession company, and wholly owned subsidiary of Johawaki Holdings Sdn Bhd; Belati Wangsa (M) Sdn Bhd (BWSB) and the Sultan Iskandar Institute, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (ISI UTM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards the sustainability and sustainability of the road maintenance industry.

The MoU includes three main aspects, namely Innovative Materials Towards Green Technology, Real Time Monitoring System (Real Time) and Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Technology, as well as Professional Development Consultancy for Certified Facility Management Managers (CFMM).

The three-year collaboration aims to take advantage of the synergy between industry expertise and academic excellence by fostering innovation, consultation, research, particularly in the field of road maintenance in addition to developing human capital through training programmes and industrial training opportunities for university students.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at the Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building, UTM and was also attended by Wan Jazmi Che Ismail Director of BWSB, Mohamad Akmal Johari Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Johawaki Group, Mohamad Solan Derani Chief Executive Officer of BWSB, Senior Associate Professor Dr Abdullah Hisam Omar, Executive Director of ISI, Senior Professor Dr Kherun Nita Ali, Dean of the UTM Faculty of Architecture & Surveying, Associate Professor Dr Suhaimi Bakar, Dean of the UTM Faculty of Civil Engineering witnessed by Datuk Ir. Hamzah bin Hassan Chairman of Johawaki Group, Abdul Hadi Abdul Rahim Chief Marketing Officer of Johawaki Group and Deputy Director 1 ISI Ar. Dr Ts. Samsiah Binti Abdullah.

The Chief Executive Officer of BWSB, Mohamad Solan Derani said, “This collaboration signifies the company’s commitment and initiative to expand bilateral relations with various sectors and agencies in carrying out innovation, research/research, training and development to improve the quality and level of road services in Malaysia in line with the vision of a company that is always committed to providing quality maintenance services through increased skilled manpower and new technology is comparable to similar road concessions at the international level.”

Associate Professor Sr. Dr Abdullah Hisam Omar, Executive Director of ISI UTM is very pleased and hopes that this collaboration can benefit both parties.

“UTM, as a leading research university in Malaysia that is based on innovating solutions, is always open to cooperation with the industry, and we provide facilities to conduct research. Cooperation with the industry is very important to produce students who excel in the technical field, as well as being a significant opportunity for both parties to explore the latest innovations that can benefit the global community,” he said.

“We also hope that through this collaborative relationship, there will be more research activities, and the results can be translated into joint publications, joint patents, and joint product commercialisation between the two organisations,” he added.
