A total of RM99.8 million was approved by the Federal Government in December last year to implement the Sungai Skudai river rejuvenation project.

Suhaizan Kaiat, a Pulai Member of Parliament, stated that the project, which involves cleaning silt and deepening the river, will begin next year.

So far, it is still being studied, but it is likely to aid local fishermen.

“The Skudai River is currently shallow and narrow due to extensive development, and silt causes the river to become silted up and narrower.

“So the job is to clear the silt, which will consequently aid the Marine Police in Sungai Skudai and its jetty recover and be able to carry out activities as usual,” he told reporters after officiating the Johor Zone A Fishermen’s Aid Ceremony at the Hassan Abdullah Hall, Kampung Pasir.
