The annual 7km run for hoteliers organised by the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Johor Chapter, recently took place in Iskandar Puteri, with the flag-off by Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Dato’ Ghazi.

Alongside him were Unity, Heritage, and Culture Committee chairman Raven Kumar Krishnasamy, Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon besides MAH President, Datin Christina Toh, the Mayor of Iskandar Puteri, Dato’ Haji Mohd Haffiz Haji Ahmad, and the Chairman of the MAH Johor Chapter, Ivan Teo.

This year’s MAH Johor Chapter Run saw a total of 39 hotels participating, with 776 hotel employees, dispersed by brands and by location.

Datuk Onn Hafiz lauded the hotel association for helping to promote sports and healthy lifestyle to its members.

“The Johor government is committed to positioning Johor state as a leading sports tourism destination with the many available new sports facilities and activities that are being planned on an international level.”

“Sports also improve social connectivity and inclusion, building communities that enable diversity as well as unity among the races,” he said. He also emphasised the importance of hotels providing lodging and services that will improve visitors’ experience, as well as be well prepared for the 2026 Visit Johor Year.

“The hospitality industry was one of the badly affected ones during the pandemic,” the Menteri Besar acknowledged in his speech before the flag off. However, the economy is expected to be on the rise with the Special Economic Zone and Special Financial Zone that’ll be launched soon,” he continued, stressing the importance of hotels being equipped to handle a surge of visitors in terms of amenities and services.

Onn Hafiz also witnessed MAH Johor Chapter presenting a donation of RM3000 to Persatuan Kebajikan i-Kasih Johor Bahru.

Man Kumar Karki, a 22-year-old Nepali who was representing KSL Hotel Resort, was the first to arrive and declared as the winner of the Men’s category.

Meanwhile, Nurul Nazuin, a 22-year-old from LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, emerged as the winner for the Women’s category.
