Ombak Festival adds 6x Grammy winner Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Launches Festival Day Passes and Exclusive Ticketed Events

Leading up to Ombak Festival, which will take place from 13 to  15 September 2024, award-winning destination resort, Desaru Coast announces the full festival lineup, Festival Day  Passes, and new Exclusive Ticketed Events for festival goers. 

Billed as The Ultimate Weekend, Ombak Festival has added six-time Grammy Award winner Nile Rodgers & CHIC  and prolific British DJ and producer Quantic to its star-studded lineup. Kicking off The Ultimate Weekend is Quantic  at Ember Beach Club, One&Only Desaru Coast on 13 September 2024. The excitement continues with Swedish  band The Cardigans and pop culture icon Grace Jones headlining the Ombak Main Stage on 14 September 2024. The Ultimate Weekend wraps up with a bang as Macy Gray, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut  album; and Nile Rodgers & CHIC hit the Ombak Main Stage on 15 September 2024. 

Other new acts to the lineup include rapper Joe Flizzow and R&B artist Alextbh will also perform on Ombak Main  Stage, while Zainal Abidin, Matilde G, Adrian G, and Sweet Nightmare will take to the Sessions Live Stage at Hard  Rock Hotel Desaru Coast. Beyond music, the vibrant coastal celebrations will also feature three other captivating  elements: visual arts & craft, F&B, and Ombak Kids. 

Exclusive Ticketed Events at Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas and One&Only Desaru Coast 

Ombak Festival also rolled out Exclusive Ticketed Events for Stay Package guests, which are available on a first come first-served basis. The first of these is the Ombak Supper Club with The Stars by Yellow Fin Horse on Friday,  13 September 2024, where guests staying on destination will have the opportunity to dine with performers and artists.  The menu, curated by the highly acclaimed Chef Jun Wong, will be limited to 90 guests.  

An Exploration of Nusantara Cuisine with Khir Johari & Chef Adu delivers an immersive culinary experience that  intersects with culture and heritage. This fireside chat and lunch features Chef Adu Amran of ADU Sugar and Khir  Johari, author of the award-winning book The Food of the Singapore Malays: Gastronomic Travels Through the  Archipelago. Chef Adu will also be creating a culinary smorgasbord representing the best of Johor street food in  Streets & Beats. Turmeric at Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas will host An Exploration of Nusantara Cuisine and Streets & Beats. 

In addition to hosting the Exclusive Ticketed Event, All Q’ued Up by Quantic, One&Only Desaru Coast will also  present Ember Beach Club Brunch by Chef Andrew Walsh, an elevated barbecue experience infused with Asian  flavours, to the Southeast Asian sounds of DJs Maft Sai and Mellow Goeslaw. 

Nice Monster, Qureshi, REXKL, and Kapten Batik join Ombak Festival  

Outside of the Exclusive Ticketed Events, Ombak Festival also added puppetry studio Nice Monster and House of  Qureshi by Chef Ahsan Ali Qureshi to its music & performances and F&B programming, respectively. Festival goers will be enthralled by Nice Monster’s specially-commissioned giant roving puppets depicting Johorean folk tales and  the South Asian offerings of Chef Ahsan, who will be commandeering the kitchen at Big Easy Bar & Grill, which  overlooks the stunning Ocean Course at The Els Club Desaru Coast. 

Guests will be spoilt for choice at the Festival Village, where Food Fiction by REXKL will serve up F&B stars including  Licky Chan, Jojo’s by Joloko, Stellar, Fafaba, KAI, Calle Taco, The REX Bar, Brotani, and Kantin. Also at Festival Village are fashion innovators Kapten Batik, who will showcase their batik collection, along with special Ombak Festival merchandise; as well as Collection Curated by Dia Guild, a platform that spotlights unique fashion  from Southeast Asian brands. 

Festival Day Passes 

Ombak Festival launched Festival Day Passes, with a 1-Day Pass priced at RM550+ and a 2-Day Pass priced  at RM990+. All Festival Day Passes include access to Ombak Main Stage and retail and F&B areas within the  Festival Village on 14 September and/or 15 September 2024.

Getting to Ombak Festival  

To meet the demand of day trippers coming in from Singapore, ferry service frequency will be increased over the  weekend from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal. Tickets can be purchased  from BatamFast.  

Chartered bus services are available between Queen Street, Singapore and Desaru Coast on 14 and 15 September  2024. Tickets can be purchased from CausewayLink. Free shuttle services are available between R&F Mall, Johor  Bahru and Desaru Coast on 14 and 15 September 2024.
