The Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) hosted the 2024 National Training Week (NTW) opening ceremony at Southern University College in Skudai, Johor on 24th June 2024. Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Johor’s Menteri Besar, presided over the event, which was also attended by Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee bin Daud, Secretary General of the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA).

The Opening Ceremony was attended by 1,500 distinguished guests, including Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Haji Azmi Bin Rohani, Johor’s Secretary of State, Lee Ting Han, Chairman of Johor’s Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee, HRD Corp’s Chairman, Datuk Abu Huraira bin Abu Yazid, its Chief Executive, Datuk Wira Shahul Dawood, Professor Ir. Ts. Dr Chuah Joon Huang, President of the Southern University College, as well as representatives from various government agencies, employers, training providers, state bodies, educational institutions, NGOs, and the public.

NTW was introduced last year as the nation’s first training-focused week. Spearheaded by HRD Corp, it is a full week of training events and activities that bring together organisations and people from various industries and backgrounds for free learning and development opportunities.

The hugely successful NTW 2023, which took place in May of last year, will be followed by NTW 2024, which takes place from 24th to 30th June 2024.

The week-long initiative, which retains its core goal of promoting lifelong learning as a culture among all Malaysians, achieves this by providing high-impact training courses to Malaysians through collaborative efforts between government agencies, corporate sectors, training providers, trainers, academia, and individuals.

Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee stated that the decision to choose Johor as the state to launch a national scale initiative such as the NTW was based on the state’s robust economic growth and uniqueness.

He added that the unity exuded by the Bangsa Johor is not found in other states, and KESUMA is always willing to collaborate with the Johor State Government in developing local talent.

NTW 2024 aims to go a step further in inspiring Malaysians to pursue lifelong learning for personal and professional development by providing over 60,000 free courses nationwide to 200,000 Malaysians via various channels.

It is anticipated that these training activities will provide RM200 million in training value and record over 700,000 training hours.

HRD Corp and its partners will provide 686 free training programmes for the Southern Region, including 402 programmes in Johor, 146 in Negeri Sembilan, and 138 in Melaka. As of date, over 23,000 enrolments have been recorded in the Southern Region, with the majority coming from Johor.

The NTW event in Johor featured MYFUTUREJOBS Fair by PERKESO offering over 700 jobs from reputable organisations to job seekers in the state, besides engaging and educational activities scheduled throughout the day.

These included Crane Electronics by Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi Jabatan Pengurusan & Krisis Pelabuhan Tg. Pelepas (PTP), Halal Industry Fundamentals (Halal Awareness) by Halal Development Corporation (HDC), Drone Pilot Training, Automotive Detailing Workshops, and Sign Language Classes.

Supported by more than 500 learning and development activities nationwide, NTW 2024 will also feature training-related events and programmes through an NTW Learning Event in Penang for the Northern Region on 25th June, in Kuala Terengganu covering the East Coast Region on 26th June, in Kuching, Sarawak on 27th June and in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on 28th June.

The final event of NTW 2024 will be a two-day training extravaganza on 29th and 30th June, 2024, at Stadium Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

The programme will include MYFUTUREJOBS Career Fair, Sports Clinic, Lego Competition, EV Experience by Proton, Pancasains by Petrosains, and a book fair by BookXcess.
