ibis Styles Johor Iskandar Puteri proudly hosted 143 final-year students and lecturers from Singapore’s Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) for a one-day immersive educational experience titled NYP Learning Journey. The initiative, part of the students’ academic curriculum under the School of Business Management, provided practical exposure to hotel operations and real-world hospitality practices.

The Learning Journey also reflected Accor’s ambition in Building Awareness and Experiences to Connect and Explore, encouraging young talents to engage meaningfully with the local ecosystem while expanding their professional horizons through real-world interaction.

Students from four specialised diploma programmes – Business Management, Food & Beverage Business, Sports & Wellness Management and Mass Media Management participated in the visit, which included behind-the-scenes tours, hands-on learning, and professional insights from the hotel’s leadership team.

The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Charanita Gill, General Manager of ibis Styles Johor Iskandar Puteri, who emphasised the importance of experiential learning in the hospitality industry.

“In hospitality, theory sets the foundation but it is hands-on experience that truly brings the industry to life” said Gill. “We’re honoured to be one of your learning destinations and hope to inspire your professional journey through real-world exposure.”

Students were divided into groups and rotated across five engaging activity stations throughout the day:

  • Business Operations Insight: Covering hotel setup planning, CAPEX, and marketing strategies.
  • Hotel Room Tour: A guided walk-through of guest rooms and operational areas.
  • Bed-Making Workshop: Practical housekeeping training with real-time demonstrations.
  • Table Setting Session: Introduction to banquet and dining setup procedures.
  • Career & Sustainability Talk: Insightful discussions on hospitality career pathways and Accor’s commitment to sustainability.

As part of Accor’s broader commitment to Preserving Local Communities and Culture, the programme highlighted the hotel’s unique interior inspired by the local cocoa story, offering students a first-hand look at how cultural identity is woven into hospitality design and guest experiences.

The event concluded with a buffet lunch curated by the hotel’s culinary team and a group photo session, marking a memorable end to a day filled with exploration, inspiration and learning.

This initiative is a testament to ibis Styles Johor Iskandar Puteri’s role as more than just a hotel. It is a creative and inclusive hub dedicated to education, empowerment and the future of hospitality.
