55,000 construction workers in Penang and Johor will be vaccinated as part of Phase Two of the Construction Industry Vaccination Programme (CIVac), which will begin on 5th August 2021.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said on 12th July 2021 that workers in Penang and Johor are able to register for the vaccination, with 30,000 slots allocated in Penang and 25,000 in Johor.

He added that all slots in Johor were fully booked while registration in Penang is still ongoing.

“The vaccination process will be carried out from 5th August until 15th September,” he said in a statement.

Phase One of CIVac, according to Fadillah, first began on 1st July in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, with a target of 40,000 local and international construction workers.

He said as of 20th July, a total of 24,106 or 60.26% of workers registered under the programme had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The ministry is currently applying to the National COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) for more vaccine supplies to accommodate the demand of 300,000 construction workers, including another 65,000 in Kuala Lumpur and 30,000 in Selangor.

“Based on the current demand of the construction industry, a request for an additional quota of the vaccination will be made,” he said.

He added the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) would supply a mobile vaccination centre if there was a demand.

The COVID-19 vaccination programme for construction workers

The COVID-19 vaccination programme for construction workers, known as CIVac, is a project led by CIDB under the Works Ministry to increase immunisation rates among economic frontline employees in order to prevent COVID-19 infection clusters at the workplaces.
