The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has donated a ventilator and personal protective equipment (PPE) to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang, Johor in aid of COVID-19 response through the #responsMALAYSIA initiative.
HH Tunku Temenggong of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, who is also the Chairman of the MCRS National Committee for Community Services and Health, graced the handover ceremony of the ventilator and PPEs to the hospital’s director, Dr. Hjh. Azura Abu Bakar at His Highness’s residence in Johor Bahru on Monday, 20th April 2020.
The medical items worth RM70,000 were channeled through the MRCS’s #responsMalaysia initiative – a movement to gather corporations, NGOs and communities to come together to participate in a coordinated and meaningful way to alleviate the devastating effects of COVID-19.
Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom will receive 1 ventilator worth RM49,500, 1 carton of N95 masks and protective gowns, 2 cartons of gloves and protective masks and 500 units of face shields to be used by its medical staff for their protection as they man the front lines.
Also present during the handover ceremony were MRCS Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for Community Services and Health, Dato’ Hj. Mohd Rashidi Mohd. Nor, and MRCS Secretary General, Dato’ Sayed Rahman Sayed Mohd.
Prior to this presentation, the National Committee had also donated a ventilator to Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru together with various PPEs to the tune of RM75,000.00.
Since the establishment of the #responsMALAYSIA initiative by the MRCS National Headquarters, MRCS State branches and chapters at various districts throughout the country have also been working actively to support efforts and to assist the Government in this health crisis, filling in the gaps and providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable communities.
Alongside the MRCS National Committee for Community Services and Health led by HH Tunku Idris with the guidance and advice from HM The Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, who is also the Royal Adviser to Malaysia Red Crescent; the people in need during these trying times have received necessary aid through the various community outreach and healthcare activities with support from Red Crescent volunteers.
Upon the advice of HM The Permaisuri of Johor, the volunteers have been requested to assist the community in whatever way possible in line with the 7 Principles of the Red Cross & Red Crescent movement all the more under our obligations as an auxiliary body to the Government of Malaysia.
