State of the art building will be the new home of MBJB
Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) held a topping off ceremony to signify the end of the building process of its new building. The event was officiated by Menteri Besar Johor Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal and Johor Bahru Mayor Haji Amran A Rahman.
The building, located at One Bukit Senyum, will be MBJB’s main headquarters replacing the current main office at Jalan Dato’ Onn. However, the current office will continue to operate as usual for certain departments. Handover of the building will be done by January 2020 and the gradual move will begin by February 2020.
At fifteen-storey high with 7 level basements, the state-of-the-art new building hopes to address patrons’ concerns on parking and respond to staffs’ conducive working environment requests. An auditorium and a ballroom that can host 1000 people also occupy a spot at the new office. For the convenience of staff with children, a childcare facility is also built at the basement of the building.
The building design was inspired by the same architect firm that designed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It has received the Green Building Index recognition as an environmentally-friendly building, designed with electric-saving features.
In a press conference, Mayor Hj Amran recognises that it is the older generation who frequents physical counters/booths to pay. He acknowledged the younger generation prefers to pay over the internet, and are looking into improving their online services.
