In this Holy Month of Ramadan, Maxim E-hailing shares an inspiring story of their partner-driver who has been half-paralysed for almost two years.

Chien Soon Khing was born and raised in Kuching, Sarawak, but moved to Johor Bahru ten years ago to look for career opportunities. He moved to Johor Bahru alone and rented a room in Kangkar Tebrau, wanting to pursue a career in the safety industry. He was passionate about what he did and willing to work hard to earn more money and have a stable life.

“I secured a position as an executive operator at one of the non-governmental security companies. I worked every day. I was fully committed until one day, around end of 2018, I had a mild stroke at work. It changed my life. This was caused by high pressure, stress, and not having enough rest. After that, the doctors recommended that I take a leave for at least two years.

I went back to my hometown and rested for more than a year, until the end of 2020. After that, I moved back to Johor and looked for other job opportunities. Unfortunately, it was tough to get one because of my condition: I am half-paralysed. But in the end, I was able to secure a job as a hotel receptionist. This time, it was different; people were looking down on me. It left me feeling unmotivated, and I eventually quit.

A friend of mine introduced me to Maxim E-hailing, an app where you can earn money and be your own boss. This industry was totally new to me. Thankfully, it turned out to be exactly the job I was looking for – I can work any time and take a break once I’m tired, because I need to take care of my health as I have limitations. This job provides work-life balance and a healthy professional environment,” shared Soon.

A very hard-working driver with a good attitude, he is quickly learning the ins and outs of the industry. He is working smart by adjusting his schedule to peak hours, learning the ropes of customer service, and establishing good relationship with the management. Moreover, he keeps his car clean and exhibits a friendly personality.

There’s nothing that can stop Soon Khing from bringing joy to his family, as he is able to earn approximately RM3,000 per month net. He’s now happier with this new job. During Ramadan, Maxim decided to help their partner-driver in need and support him by donating various aids, including cookies, milo, bread, snacks, and a lot more for the celebration of Aidilfitri.

“Driving has also become a part of who I am, and I feel calmer during trips, especially if it’s a long road trip. Also, meeting new people makes me feel more alive, as most of the passengers are very nice and always thank me for driving them safely.

I felt so happy and appreciated when Maxim reached out to me, their help was enormously meaningful. The platform also gives me the opportunity to work despite my condition,” shared Soon.

Maxim is grateful for the chance to help their partner-drivers and be able to offer the opportunity that can change people’s lives in positive ways. This campaign was conducted as a part of an effort to take care of partner-drivers during Ramadan. The company is planning to keep to this commitment and check on partner-drivers who are in need, and offer help.
