The field hospital will be built by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) on 17th June. R Vidyananthan, chairman of the Johor Health and Environment Committee, said the MAF has agreed to offer more facilities at the HSA for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
He added that the field hospital was also needed because the number of COVID-19 patients at the government hospitals in the district has increased by 30% since the start of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri last month.
“In phases, the field hospital will be outfitted with four critical care unit (ICU) beds and 60 hospital beds.
Vidyananthan said that MAF has also agreed to send three officers and 30 paramedics to the field hospital to support the HSA’s medical team and ensure that operations run smoothly.
According to him, a total of 1,247 COVID-19 patients were being treated at government facilities across the state as of 6th June.
He said that 105 patients needed ICU treatment, with 82 requiring ventilator support.
“There are 24 COVID-19 patients being treated in private hospitals here too, with two of them requiring ventilators,” he added.
