Lush Malaysia, in partnership with the Johor State Government and HRH Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, spearheaded a coral planting initiative on Rawa Island and Tengah Island. Supported by Tengah Island Conservation (TIC), this effort brought together Lush’s team, the media, celebrities, environmentalists and government officers. The initiative aligns with Lush’s global mission of regenerating marine ecosystems and fostering a thriving natural environment.
Lush Malaysia’s ongoing coral planting initiatives at Lang Tengah Island, Gaya Island and now Johor islands, are part of the company’s broader commitment to regenerate biodiversity and strengthen coral reef resilience against climate change. These efforts restore natural habitats, support marine life and attract eco-conscious tourists, contributing to the revitalisation of the local economy.
“Lush believes that the health of the ocean is vital for global climate stability, diverse ecosystems and human life. Coral reefs, among the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, provide essential habitats and protect shorelines from extreme weather. They also play a significant role in tourism. However, climate change and unsustainable practices threaten these ecosystems. Regenerating coral reefs benefits coastal communities, fisheries, and wildlife, while also contributing to climate regulation.” said Dr Harvinder Harchand, Director of Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics Malaysia.
The trip also featured a beach cleanup, bath bomb workshops and an educational trip to the Tunku Abdul Jalil Conservation Centre, led by Tunku Tun Aminah, highlighting holistic marine and coastal ecosystem regeneration efforts.
Lush Malaysia actively encourages community participation in these regenerative activities, aiming to cultivate a deeper commitment to restoring marine ecosystems. This dedication to regeneration was prominently showcased at the recent Lush Malaysia Showcase 2024, held in May.
